Learn How 2 Get Hired! TU20 Workshop & Pitch Night

May 10, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

$10

Do you know a Halton student between 15 and 20 years of age?

Are they interested in tech? Would they like to learn about work opportunities available in the Technology sector? Would they like to know what companies look for in candidates and how they hire? We’ve got a great 2 night program to help them learn how to get hired!

What They’ll Get Out Of 2 Packed Nights

  • LEARN what job opportunities are available in the tech sector (hint: definitely not all coding jobs)
  • UNDERSTAND how companies review resumes – and what makes them pay attention
  • GET clear guidance on how to network – both in person and on social media
  • LEARN how to create a unique pitch and practice delivering it to Halton tech companies in a comfortable environment
  • GROW their network with local tech companies that hire and meet peers that they could work with on interesting projects

Limited to 50 students – (ideally 5 students each from at least 10 different Halton Region high schools)

Are you a Halton based tech company that hires summer students?

Silicon Halton cares deeply about building opportunities for students within Halton region – making this a great place to live, work, and play.  After all, our core is about Technology, Community, and Growth.

With that in mind, we’re looking for 30 Silicon Halton members / companies that may be hiring summer students this year – for projects, for internships, and/or for summer employment.  We’d like to help TU20’s gain experience pitching themselves and networking face-to-face.  Each member / company that participates will listen to all 30 second pitches individually, then spend 2 minutes in rapid Q & A with each student.  If you don’t have a current opportunity to offer, you’re still welcome to participate.  You never know when you might need one of these talented Halton students.

Silicon Halton Member / Company Experience From 2016

“When I attended the Tech Under Twenty Pitch Night last year I was truly impressed by the caliber of high school students that we had an opportunity to interview. It was a well organized event and in less than an hour I met several young people who conducted themselves very professionally. There were at least 3 or 4 students that I thought could make a contribution to our entrepreneurial organization over the summer months. In the end we settled on one who worked with our Marketing Department to update our website. I believe it was a mutually beneficial experience and would encourage other employers to get involved. ” – Dianne Beveridge – President AYVA Educational Solutions
