Meetup #13 - Top 10 LinkedIn Tips & Powerful Networking

Strong turnout again at Ned Devines on November 16, 2010.   The promise of a crowdsourced Topten LinkedIn Tips & speed networking did not disappoint.

The Program

LinkedInLinkedIn Top 10 Tips - For our keynote presentaiton, we asked the Silicon Halton membership for their favorite tip, hidden or buried functionality that you can leverage in your daily professional or business life.  The crowed-sourced method to collect content worked great.  What started as Top 10 tips, ended up including ~Topten best practices and ~Top 10 Don'ts.  For example, see who attended Meetup 13 here. Donna Papacosta of Trafalgar Communications skillfully presented the crowdsourced content.  Thanks Donna!

Member Presentation -Bob Minhas, president of AlphaStarr, presented on How Security, A/V and Phone companies approach new technologies and the new capabilities technology can provide.  Bob gavee an overview of how businesses are approaching IP telephony and how to better prepare you, the IT professional, for the new technologies coming down the pipe.

Innovation Research - Sheridan's Darren Lawless, Dean of Research, provided a high-level overview of the Innovation and Growth Reseach funding available to Halton businesses from Sheridan.  Sheridan has received $750k to work with local industries on innovative solutions that will help to drive business development in our community.  More details here, or join the discussion there, or contact Darren directly.

Uber Networking - Reema Duggal of The Sitaran Group closed the "formal" portion of tonights meetup with speed networking.  Through sucessive rapid 2 minute rounds (30 seconds  to tell your story + 30 seconds to hear someone else’s story +  60 seconds to ask questions of each other).  We had opposing rings of unattendees, with pairs of people facing each other, then started the uber networking (did anyone take a pix?). After two minutes, the bell rang and one of the rings of unattendees moved one-person-to-the-left and started again.  Over and over. Feedback on the LinkedIn discussion was everyone valued from this form of speed networking, and suggested more than 2min be given per engagement.  We'll add speed networking periodically to the 2011 program.  Thanks Reema!
