During this talk, we will discuss how you can easily provision and manage a Dev-Test environment with MS Azure, move existing environments into the cloud for testing with relative ease, less complexity and comparatively small cost. All of this will help you meet the needs of your teams faster and manage Dev-Test environments with more visibility and control. Some of the topics covered:

  • An introduction to the cloud using Microsoft Azure functionality
  • How Azure can accelerate traditional software development and testing
  • Azure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) vs Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  • How to quickly provision development and test environments with Azure Dev-Test Labs
  • Minimize resource usage and costs with quotas and policies
  • Set automated start-ups/shutdowns to minimize costs
  • Create Windows and Linux environments with pre-built fully patched VM image templates

Let us know you're coming!  RSVP on meetup.com.

FRIDAY June 16, 2017 | 11:30am - 1pm - NOTE NEW TIME!

There will be pizza.

We're taking another step forward in our Traction Marketing initiative.  Last month we measured the success of our first tracks.  This month we will discuss our company's "foot in the door" to a potential customer.  That is, an offering or "package" that we offer a potential customer, that addresses a common felt need at a price point that encourages (hopefully immediate) buy-in.  Please come prepared to discuss YOUR offering.  Oh, and there will be pizza.  Please confirm to This email address is being protected from spambots. SoftwarePeer2PeerMonday October 24th at 7pm | Apple Suites, 700 Third Line, Oakville

Our fourth meetup will feature Michael Lant discussing UX Triage:

User experience design is the process of enhancing user satisfaction by improving the usability, accessibility, and pleasure provided in the interaction between the user and the product. In this meeting, Michael will introduce you to an emerging process called UX-Triage - a simple, collaborative process that allows business stakeholders, developers and designers to quickly work through the discovery, organization, creation and optimization of the fundamental UX elements of any software application.

Following the presentation we will continue the discussion around User Experience and User Interface design.  This should be interesting for anyone designing or delivering a software product with a user interface, which is pretty much everyone building software!

POST UPDATE:

The meeting was very informative, Michael described the UX Design landscape at a high level and then drilled down into the UX Triage process in detail.  There was a fair amount of Q&A as well, discussing the modeling approach at scale and the scope of information to capture.  Additional resource links can be found below.  Thanks again for presenting Michael!

We also discussed some ideas for upcoming meetings, including game development, security topics, comparing web development environments, and Xamarin.  If any of these topics resonate with you please feed free to comment on the Software P2P page.

The next meeting will be Monday November 28th, 7pm, at Apple Suites in Oakville.  The topic will be Security, with more details coming soon.

Meetup #8: Open Hack Night

Please note the date change!  We are going to meet on Monday April 24th instead of March 20th.

This will be an informal "Hack Night"; everyone can bring a laptop to demo/show off side projects, and discuss different ways of tackling programming problems.  This will be unstructured with a more technical style than our usual high-level discussions.

If you're planning to join us, please register for the event.
