Topic: What it Takes (Part II)

Inspired by the Canadian women rocking the RIO Summer Olympics and the amazing #WhatItTakes campaign from SportChek (Check out the videos here) we are bringing in mentors and coaches to take the limits off of our beliefs and dare greatly in our careers and with our businesses.

This month we have invited Ballsy member Norine Jones to share her story and tips on the importance of valuing yourself and your business or career.

The Women in Tech Peer 2 Peer group’s goal is to empower women in business by examining the unique gender based challenges of working in and with technology to effect progressive change within our working and community environments.

Meet ups are generally for women only who work or live in Halton.  Non-Silicon Halton members are welcome.

Each month we'll have a topic for debate, and an opportunity for individuals to share challenges and successes with the group in a safe, supportive setting.

Meetup formats may include dinner discussion meetings, guest speaker presentations, or workshops - depending on the topic.

About the Presenter

Norine Jones began her unique career in the auto industry, starting out working in the body shop, eventually becoming a body shop manager, and then a service manager. Why is her career described as unique already? Because Norine has always been one to take on a challenge and chose her career within male dominated industries from the beginning. This gave her a solid foundation from which to continue building her current position as President of PowerVac Services Hamilton. Lest you think that PowerVac is the name for a house cleaning company, it actually provides services for duct cleaning and mold abatement and removal for home, commercial and industrial projects. Not exactly Molly Maid.

In addition to being a successful business owner, Norine is very active in the volunteer community of Hamilton. She has been participating in Girl Guides of Canada for over 14 years as a unit leader, community camp organizer and Administrative Community Leader. It is very important to Norine to show other girls and women that they too can create their own path and future.

PowerVac Hamilton is a family owned and operated business that Norine’s father took over as General Manager over 25 years ago and eventually bought. Norine joined the company as the Operations Manager and held that position for 9 years. She then moved in to the General Manager role for 2 years. After losing her father just over a year ago, Norine moved in to the role of owner and has been the Lady Boss for the past 1.5 years, officially becoming the President within the past two months.

With 3 cats, 1 dog, 2 daughters and one patient husband, Norine’s life is one of time management, learning and large cups of Early Grey Tea.

December2016-Unmeetup-E

December 13, 2016 | 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm | Ivy Bar+Kitchen, Burlington

Eventbrite - Silicon Halton Meetup #86: Holiday Un-Meetup

Un-Meetups are Meetups with no pre-determined topic(s). Potential topics are rapidly pitched, voted on, then launched. We have four 30-minutes time slots for topics.

How It Works

Step 1:  Any un-meetup attendee can pitch a topic they're interested in, have knowledge about, or want to explore.

Step 2: The audience votes [pix of last votinglast voting] on the topics that interest them most. This will be fun and engaging, not a simple show-of-hands - the voting process contains networking

Step 3: The top 2 topics immediately begin in parallel as 30-minute sessions.

Step 4: A short break at the 30min mark to catch our breath, followed immediately by topics 3 & 4

Step 5: We regroup and share key items learned

If you end up not liking the session you voted yourself into, vote again with your feet and move to the other topic.

The person who suggested the topic must either present during their 30min session, lead it, assist in facilitating it, or a blend of any of the above.

October2016-Get5NewClients

Tuesday, October 11, 2016  |  Halton Hive Hive, Burlington

Technology entrepreneurs and businesses are always looking for new clients - and not just more clients, better clients too.

Yet just like technology, for many of us, everything is changing. It's getting harder and harder to just get through the clutter, convince our clients, and land the deal.  Doesn't it seem like your same old ways work less and less?  What you need is a new approach, tailor made for your business.

Find 5 New & Better Clients In 90 days

Join us for an interactive session on process innovation driven by a proven creative thinking approach.  Using the group Creative Problem Solving framework, you’ll work with others SH members to break out of old paradigms (ways of thinking) and find new and better ways to:

  • clarify the gaps between what you want and what you have
  • explore ideas to fill these gaps
  • formulate improved solutions from those ideas potential to work
  • implement those solutions by building individualized blueprints from our collective discoveries and ideas

Together we will evolve new and effective ways for you to reach existing clients or find new (and better) clients and markets. Not a marketing meet-up, but rather a meet-up designed to experience how the Creative Problem Solving method can help you innovate and solve real and pressing business challenges.
